Harley R. Benskin, 100, of Marshalltown died of complications of a lung ailment Wednesday at Grandview Heights Nursing Home there.

The body was cremated, and memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Laurel United Methodist Church in Laurel. Private family burial of the cremains will be at a later date at Graceland Cemetery there.

Mr. Benskin was born in Jasper County and had lived in the Laurel area before moving to Marshalltown in 1998. He was a retired millwright with Midwest Mfg. Co. and a member of the Antique Airplane Association, Pioneer Iowa Pilot Club, the Boone and Scenic Valley Railroad Association and the Kellogg Historical Society. He had been a pioneering and barnstorming pilot.

He is survived by a son, Dale of Marshalltown a daughter, Virginia Doutt of Colorado Springs, Colo. five grandchildren a step-grandchild four great-grandchildren four step-great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Ann Robinson Benskin.

Memorial contributions may be made to Laurel United Methodist Church or Iowa River Hospice in Marshalltown. Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton is handling arrangements.
