Visitation: The family will greet friends from 5-7 P.M., Thursday, July 05, 2012 at the funeral home.
Interment: Immediately following the memorial service on Friday, July 06, 2012 at Newton Union Cemetery.Larry, the son of Samuel R. and Daisy D. (Haines) Hervey, was born April 22, 1923 in Brooklyn, Iowa. At an early age his family moved to Newton, Iowa where he lived out his life. Larry served his country in the United States Army as a drill sergeant and artillery expert in World War II. He owned and operated a gravel truck for several years. After that, he worked as a dock foreman for Western Transportation Co. for 27 years, until the company closed. He then drove the Book Mobile for the Newton Library for 7 years, before retiring. Larry was united in marriage with Sharron Hawkins in Omaha, Nebraska in 2005. A kind and gentle man was called to Heaven on July 2, 2012, at the Iowa Veteran’s Home in Marshalltown, Iowa. He will be greatly missed by those left to honor him; his wife, Sharron Hervey of Newton; daughter, Jann (Pete) Smith of Colfax; son, Terry Hervey of Newton; 5 step-children, Charlie Hawkins, JR Hawkins, and Sherri Smith, all of Newton, Pat Versteegh of Des Moines, and Larry (Claire) VerSteegh of Ashville, North Carolina; his 5 grandchildren, Pete Smith and Mandy Cox of Colfax, Kris Hervey of Newton, Jeni Hervey of Des Moines, Tyson Griffith of Newton, and a special granddaughter, Danelle Brown of Newton; 3 great-grandchildren, Jessica Cox of Colfax, Silis Hervey of Mason City, and Shyna Redeen of Des Moines; his niece, Pat (Cecil) Greiman of Des Moines; and nephew, Larry (Jeannie) Roush of Pensacola, Florida. Larry was preceded in death by his parents; 2 half-brothers, John White and Charles White; his sister, Beulah Robson; and a granddaughter, Denise Smith of Colfax.
Memorials to the Iowa Veteran's Home Hospice or to the American Legion Post 111 may be left at the funeral home.
