James Stephens

Visitation: The family will greet friends from 6-8 P.M., Tuesday, June 19, 2012 at the funeral home.
Funeral Service: 10:30 A.M., Wednesday, June 20, 2012 at the funeral home.
Interment: Immediately following the service on Wednesday, June 20, 2012 at Service Chapel Cemetery in Albia, Iowa.

James, the son of Ward and Esther (Dicks) Stephens, was born on June 28, 1938 in Monroe County, Iowa. He grew up in Albia and graduated from Albia High School. He later made his home in Newton and began working at the Maytag Company in 1969. James retired from there in 1999. He was a member of the UAW Local 997 and the Monroe Chapter No. 125 of the Masonic Lodge. Those left to survive James include his daughter, Lynn (Doug) Ulrey of Newton; son, Kevin (Corinne) Stephens of Kansas City; 2 granddaughters, Marianna and Allison Ulrey; his 3 sisters, Joann Plummer of West Des Moines, Mary (Gary) West of Ankeny, and Evelyn Williams of Newton; an aunt, Grace Bloodsworth; and his many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother.

Memorials in James' name may be left at the funeral home.
