Visitation: Friends may call after 3 P.M., Monday, May 21, 2012 at the funeral home. The family will greet friends from 6-8 P.M.
Funeral Service: 11 A.M., Tuesday, May 22, 2012 at the funeral home.
Interment: Immediately following the funeral service on Tuesday, May 22, 2012 at Newton Union Cemetery

Those left to honor Elmer’s memory are his wife and companion of 65 years, Katie DeBruyn of Newton; daughter, Rhonda (Dave) Russell of Prairie City; his pride and joy his grandchildren, Chris Meyer, Michelle Meyer, Dale Russell, Megan Russell, and Melanie Russell; great-grandchild, Destiny Meyer; 2 brothers, Gerald (Trudy) Wilcox of Trenton, MO and John Wilcox of Newton; his sister, Ella Marie (Tudy) Ashby of Newton; sister-in-law, Agnes DeBruyn of Newton; longtime friend, Will Nelson of Connecticut; and his many nieces and nephews.

Spike was preceded in death by his parents, James and Ella (Bowie) DeBruyn; 3 sisters; 1 brothers; and his step-father, G. Vernon Wilcox.

Elmer served his country in the U.S. Marines from 1943-1946.

He worked in the factory at the Parsons Company for 31 years and at Midwest Manufacturing for 12 years, retiring in 1988.

Memorials to the Alzheimer's Association may be left at the funeral home.
