Visitation: Immediately following the burial on Tuesday, April 10, 2012 at The Way Church in Newton.
Interment: Immediately following the memorial service on Tuesday, April 10, 2012 at Silent City Cemetery in Monroe, Iowa.

Those left to honor Gary’s memory are his 2 daughters, Carrie (James) Bonnett of Newton and Felicia Vander Velden and her fiancé, Duane Vanden Hemel of Des Moines; 2 grandchildren, Noah Bonnett and Hailey Vanden Hemel; his mother, Henrietta Vander Velden of Newton; and 2 brothers, Marvin (Melinda) Vander Velden of Pleasant Hill and Roger (Betty) Vander Velden of Reasnor.

He was preceded in death by his father, Bastian Vander Velden; his maternal and paternal grandparents; and a brother at birth.

Gary graduated from Prairie City High School in 1975. He worked for many factories in the area including the Maytag Company. Gary attended church at The Way in Newton.

Memorials to the Salvation Army or Progress Industries may be left at the church the day of the service or the funeral home.
