William Thomas Hearne, 88, of Peoria, Ariz., peacefully passed away in the early morning hours of Saturday, July 28, 2012.

William was born on Nov. 25, 1923, in Newton, Iowa, to Luke Campbell (Thomas) and Julia Ann (Draper) Hearne. William is the loving father of John (Marybeth) Hearne and Laura (John) Covington; cherished grandfather of Sara Covington, Beth (Evan) Scharfer, Josh Hearne and Lisa (Sean) Walsh; and proud great-grandfather of Nolan and Emmett Scharfer.

He is preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Robert Homer Hearne and Walter Earl Beadell, and his beloved, loving wife of 62 years, Alice Ann (Offrim) Hearne.

Bill had a career of 27 years in the Navy, which took him and the family criss-crossing the nation to several duty stations. Once retired, he and Alice enjoyed traveling the world. He was an avid golfer. Bill loved his family and friends.

A viewing will begin at noon on Sunday, Aug. 5, 2012, with a celebration of William’s life to follow at 1 p.m. at the Congregation Church of Sun City, 18401 N. 99th Ave., Sun City, Ariz.

Interment will be at the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona at 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 6, 2012. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations may be directed to The Odyssey Hospice, 202 E. Earl Drive, Suite 160, Phoenix, AZ 85012; the American Cancer Society; a Veteran’s organization; or a charity of your choice.
