William A. “Bill” Bell, Sr., 81, of Monroe died on Tuesday, July 17, 2012, at the Iowa Veteran’s Home in Marshalltown.

A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Friday, July 20, at the Wallace Family Funeral Home. The family will greet friends after the service with a coffee time at the funeral home. Memorials in Bill’s name may be left at the funeral home.

Those left to honor Bill’s memory are his five children, Belinda Snook of Newton, Opal Hanson of Newton, Jean (John) Rumley of Illinois, John (Betty) Bell of Sioux City and William Bell Jr. of Corydon; grandchildren, Rodney Cooper, Lee (Amy) Cooper, Barbara (David) Oswalt, Brandy (Brooks) Boertje, Donna Smithart, Melinda (Michael) Behrens, Michael Hanson, John Rumley, Jr., Cheri (Terry) Golden, Joseph (Destiny) Rumley, Amy Kinnenbeck, Jr. Bell and Tasha Bell; his 29 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; his sister, Alice (George) Koonts of Pleasantville; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ivan and Elizabeth (Mohler) Bell; wife, Barbara Bell; son, Terry Bell; daughter, Peggy Jean Auglo; granddaughter, Amy Rumley; two brothers, Raymond and Bob Bell; and two sisters, Grace Rexroat and Eunice Meadors. ~ The Newton (IA) Daily News, July 19, 2012.

Interment: Immediately following the memorial service on Friday, July 20, 2012 at Palo Alto Cemetery.

Bill worked at the Maytag Company for many years. He was a member of the UAW Local 997 and the VFW Post 1655.

He served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.

Bill enjoyed fishing, bowling, playing Bingo and cards, and going to the casino.
