C. D. Botsford Dies in Colfax
Former Newton Resident Dies Today at Age of 71 Years

Charles D. Botsford, 71, of Colfax, former resident of Newton, died this morning at Colfax and the body was brought to Newton to the Murdoch funeral home.

Funearl services are to be held Friday at 2 p.m. from the local funeral home. Interment will be in the Newton Union cemetery.

Mr. Botsford, retired farmer, moved from Newton to Colfax about three years ago. While living here, he served as a substitute custodian at the Junior high school building.

Former Resident Buried Friday
Funeral Services for C. D. Botsford of Colfax Held in Newton

Funeral services were observed Friday afternoon for Charles D. Botsford, 71, of Colfax, formerly local resident, at the Murdoch funeral home in Newton.

Richard Toedt, accompanied by his wife, furnished the music, singing "The Way of the Cross Leads Home" and "Abide With Me."

Interment was in the Newton Union cemetery, with the following serving as pallbearers: Orville Godwin, Fred McLellan, John Kendall, Philip Scharf, August Kracht and C. Stines.

Charles Douglas Botsford, son of William and Martha Botsford, was born near Indianapolis, Ind., Sept. 12, 1863, and died at his home in Colfax, July 3, 1935, at the age of 71 years, 9 months and 21 days.

He came to Iowa when he was 17 years old and had since resided in Jsper county with the exception of two years spent in South Dakota.

Surviving are his wife and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and a sister. ~ The Newton Daily News, Saturday, July 6, 1935, page 1, column 7.
