Vernon Shill dies Monday;
rites Thursday

Vernon Shill, 78, of the Jasper County Care Facility, a lifelong resident of Jasper County, died Monday evening at the Care Facility, southeast of Newton.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at the Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell.

The Rev. Marcus Reitz, pastor of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Grinnell, will conduct services. Burial will be in the Hickory Grove Cemetery near Newburg.

Friends may call at the Smith Funeral Home after 10 a.m. Wednesday.

Survivors are two sisters, Mrs. Raymond (Elsie) Carlson and Mrs. Herman (Gladys) Deppe, both of Kellogg.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and an infant brother.

Mr. Shill had been a longtime employee of Midwest Manufacturing Co. in Kellogg.

The son of Deulin and Della Weise Shill, he was born Aug. 7, 1901 in Jasper County and attended rural Kellogg schools.
