Madge Lister dies Friday; Rites today

Funeral services for Mrs. James (Madge E.) Lister, 79, of Heritage Manor Nursing home, a longtime resident of Newton, were held today at the Wallace Funeral Home.

The Rev. Ray Barnett pastor of the First Christian Church, conducted services. Burial was at the Newton Union Cemetery.

She died Friday evening at the Heritage Manor.

Survivors are several nieces and nephews, including Mrs. Verlin (Lois J.) Carter of Monroe, Dale W. Long of Cornelius, N. C., Mrs. Virgil (Helen) Miller of Kellogg and Harry Stover of California.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Sept 22, 1978, and her step-father, Burt Scott.

Mrs. Lister was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Newton Chapter No. 100 Order of Eastern Star and the Nazareth White Shrine.

Mrs. Lister had worked as a cashier at the Jasper County Saving Bank prior to her marriage.

The daughter of Joseph and Eva Eaglin she was born Aug 7, 1900 in Illinois.

She was married March 24, 1925 in Newton.

Mrs. Lister had resided in Illinois and Nebraska as a young girl. She and her family moved to Iowa in the 1920’s.
