Miss Florence Vaughan Dies

Had Been Ill for Long Time Following Fall

Friends here have been notified of the death of Miss Florence Vaughan, who for the past year has been a patient at the state hospital at Mt. Pleasant.

Miss Vaughan died Thursday evening after an illness of many months suffering from paralysis and other complications. Last November she slipped on the floor of the hospital and sustained a broken hip. Since that time she has been confined to her bed and a few weeks ago she was taken critically ill with a stroke of apoplexy. It is thought that the later ailment with other complications probably caused her death but no definite word has been received from the hospital officials. She had been in poor health for a number of years. Miss Vaughan was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Vaughan, both of whom have died within the past two years. The death of Miss Vaughan takes from the community the last of one of the oldest families in the county. Her father was at one time one of the leading business men in Newton. He was interested in insurance and for years was a prominent grain merchant. Miss Vaughan was one of the accomplished women of the community.

At the time of her death Miss Vaughan was 53 years old. She leaves no immediate relatives but four cousins, Mrs. D. J. Eberhart; Mrs. J. E. Masteller, of Adel; H. M. Vaughan, and William Everly.

No funeral arrangements have been announce but it is thought that the friends will respect Miss Vaughan’s wishes and hold a private funeral service from the Morgan Funeral Home. Burial will be made in the Newton Cemetery in the Vaughan Family int. ~ The Newton (IA) Daily News, Friday 28 July 1922.

Transcriber note: The following is from Newton Union Cemetery Records; Vaughan Florence 53 Friday, July 28, 1922 daughter of John & Cornelia (Piper) Vaughan; born 1869
