Military Funeral For Thos. Vaughan

Thomas Arthur Vaughan, a sailor lad who died at the United Submarine base at San Pedro, California, a week ago last Saturday, was buried in Newton Sunday afternoon at 3 o’clock under the auspices of American Legion Post 111. Only a short service was conducted at the cemetery where he was buried beside his father, Thomas Arthur Vaughan, Sr., who was killed in a railway accident a number of years ago.

The boy, who was not known here only by relatives and immediate friends of his parents, was the son of well known old time Newton residents.

His funeral Sunday was in charge of Legion, which buried the body with full military honors. His pall-bearers and escorts were ex-navy men. The funeral ritual was read by Rev. John J. H. Wilcock, rector of the Episcopal Church. ~ The Newton (IA) Daily News Tues 31 May 1921.
