Obituary
Martha R. Gardner Woody, 82, a lifelong resident of the Newton and Reasnor communities, died Sunday, June 11, at the Heritage Manor Center.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Monroe Presbyterian Church.
Dr. Thomas Bass of Perryville, Mo., former pastor of the church, will conduct services.
Burial will be in Palo Alto Cemetery near Newton.
Friends may call at the Walters-Coburn Funeral Home in Monroe after noon Tuesday and visitation with the family will be held from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Memorials to Hospice of Jasper County or the Monroe Presbyterian Women's Circle will be accepted.
Survivors are four sons and daughter-in-law, William and Coralee of Phoenix, Ariz., Jerry and Linda of Reasnor, Joseph and Joan of Rochester, N.Y., and Dr. Raymond and Laurel of Fairfield; three daughters and sons-in-law, Kay and Walter Disch of Sioux Center, Janet and Bill Short of Osceola and Irma Woody of Newton; 18 grandchildren, and 15 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Hoyt, and two sisters, Mable Hardenbrook and Florence Woody.
Mrs. Woody was a member of the Monroe Presbyterian Church.
The daughter of William and Ida Smith Gardner, she was born Sept. 23, 1912 in Newton, and was a 1930 graduate of Newton Community High School.
She was married to Hoyt Woody March 17, 1944.
They resided southeast of Reasnor until she moved to Newton in 1988. ~ The Newton Daily News, Monday, June 12, 1995
