Obituary
REASNOR -- Hoyt Woody, 80, of Reasnor, grand master of the Masonic Grand Lodge of Iowa in 1964 and 1965, died Friday, Nov. 4, near his home southeast of Reasnor.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Monroe Presbyterian Church.
The Revs. Roger and Gretchen Graf, co-pastors of the church, will conduct services.
Masonic services will be conducted by Lawrence Clary, past master of the Grand Lodge of Iowa.
Visitation with the family will be held from 7 to 8 p.m. today at the Walters-Coburn Funeral Home in Monroe.
Memorials to the William C. Knapp Endowment for Homeless Children may be left at the funeral home.
Survivors are his wife, Martha; four sons, William C. of Phoenix, Ariz., Jerry R. of Reasnor, Joe M. of Rochester N.Y., and Raymond P. of Fairfield; three daughters, Kay M. Disch of Sioux Center, Janet K. Short of Osceola and Irma B. Woody of Des Moines; 18 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and three sisters.
Mr. Woody, a retired farmer, also was grand tyler of the Masonic Grand Lodge of Iowa in 1954 and 1955, and senior grand warden in 1957 and 1958 and served on the board of custodians of the Grand Lodge of Iowa.
He was a member of Monroe Presbyterian Church and the Monumental Lodge 311 of Galesburg, and the Beulah chapter of the Order of Eastern Star of Grinnell and served on the Reasnor Telephone board and rural school boards.
The son of Henry and Ella Broderson Woody, he was born Oct. 19, 1908 in Jasper County and was educated in rural and Newton Community High School.
He was married to Martha Gardner March 17, 1934 in Newton. ~ The Newton Daily News, November 5, 1988.
