Farmer, 32, Dies Saturday Night

Herschel Woody Rites To Be Held At Monroe Tuesday Afternoon

Herschel Woody, 32, of near Prairie City, died at the University hospital in Iowa City Saturday night following a three months illness.

He submitted to a second brain operation Friday. He was admitted to the hospital last June.

A farmer all his life, Woody was well known in Monroe, Prairie City and Mound Prairie township. His wife, the former Florence Gardner of Newton survives.

Also surviving are two children, Robert and Judith; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Woody, and four brothers and a sister at home, near Monroe, Oakley, Neil, Rex, Maurice and Ardelle Woody.

Mr. Woody was born near Monroe, Jan. 4, 1906, and attended Monroe high school.

Funeral services will be held in the Monroe funeral home Tuesday at 2 p.m., with burial in Palo Alto cemetery. ~ The Newton Daily News, October 3, 1938, page 1.
