Irene M. Brant, 76, of Grinnell went to be with the Lord on Thursday, June 9, 2011, at Grinnell Regional Medical Center.
A celebration of her life will be held 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, June 15, 2011 at the Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell. Interment will be in Hazelwood Cemetery in Grinnell.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday at the Smith Funeral Home from 1 to 8 p.m., with the family present to greet friends from 5 to 8 p.m.
Memorials can be designated to the Irene M. Brant Memorial Fund, PO BOX 368, Grinnell, Iowa 50112. Memories and condolences may be shared with the family at www.smithfh.com.
She is survived by her children, Carl (Donna) Noftsger of Colfax; Clyde Brant Jr. of Columbia, S.C.; Diana (Kim Foster) of Coralville, Iowa, Jim (Louise) Brant of Grinnell and Cheryl Moyer of Grinnell; 15 grandchildren; 26 great grandchildren; and her siblings, Roger Lindell of Omaha, Neb., Mary Vaughn of Cedar Falls, Iowa, and Marilyn Faulker of Waterloo, Iowa.

Irene was born the daughter of Wilbur Elliott and Wilma Foster Doud on June 1, 1935 in Grinnell, Iowa. She was raised and educated in Grinnell. She was united in marriage to Clyde Brant, Sr. on February 3, 1953 in Des Moines, Iowa. She worked at Walmart in Newton for several years until her retirement in 2008.
Irene dearly loved her family and enjoyed attending her grandchildren’s activities. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary. Her enjoyments were playing bingo, playing the slot machines at Meskwaki, fishing, mowing her lawn, listening to country music, going to dances with her friends, and attending barbeques and family functions.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Clyde; her daughter, Linda Belcher; and her sister, Barbara Kizer.
