Wilda Nelson, 84, of Newton passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 30, 2011.
A memorial gathering for family and friends will be held from 4-6 p.m., Tuesday, May 3, 2011 at the Union Chapel Church in rural Ira. Arrangements are being handled by the Wallace Family Funeral Home & Crematory in Newton.
Wilda was born on August 17, 1926 in Ardmore, South Dakota to Van and Thelma Plumb. Wilda’s philosophy was, “There is always room for one more” and she opened her heart and home to more than 50 foster children throughout her life. She loved her family, music, dancing and cooking. She will be greatly missed by all that knew her.
Wilda is survived and lovingly remembered by her two daughters, Ann (Frank) Williamson of Pella, and Leta (Terry) Burke of Knoxville; five grandchildren, Erin (Brian) Clarke, Allison Sloan, Lukas Burke, all of Knoxville, Misty and Mindy Gray of Carlisle; her four great-grandsons, Preston Followill, Jackson Clarke, Coady Clarke, and Ross Clarke; four brothers, Bill (Janet) Plumb, Larry Plumb, Jim (Kathy) Plumb, and Doug (Judy) Plumb, all of Newton; and her many nieces and nephews.
