The Kellogg Enterprise, February 1912

CASSIUS C. VANCE

Cassius C. Vance was born July 1, 1860, near Greensboro, Indiana. In 1875, when a boy of fifteen, he came with his parents to Iowa, the family settling on a farm south of Kellogg. Here he resided for thirty years, when he removed to a farm near Eagleville, Missouri, where he passed to the "Great Beyond" on February 14, 1912.

His death has brought the bitter cup of sorrow to the lips of friends and relatives. His was a heart of gold. He was brave, generous, manly. His was the soul of honor, and his friends and friendships were sacred to him. He was the staff and comfort of his widowed mother for many years well as an aid and inspiration to other members of his family in later years.

He is survived by two brothers and five sisters, all of whom, except one sister who resides in Indiana, were present at the funeral.

The body arrived here last Saturday and was conveyed to the Christian church, where a brief service was conducted by the pastor, Rev. C. F. Lad__ when the remains were borne to the Kellogg cemetery and laid to rest beside his father and mother.

The heartfelt sympathy of the community is with the bereaved family in the death of their beloved brother.

Card of Thanks--The surviving relatives of Mr. Vance desire us to express their sincere thanks to the choir and friends who assisted them in the funeral of their beloved brother and friend.

CASSIE VANCE DEAD

On Wednesday Mrs. J. F. Vance received a telegram from Eagleville, Mo, conveying to her the sad news that her brother-in-law, Mr. C. C. Vance, passed away the same morning.

Mr. Vance had been suffering from obstruction of the bowels for some time and, in the hope of prolonging life, submitted to an operation last Sunday, from which he did not rally, but passed away as above stated.

His brother, S. O. Vance of Kellogg and his sister, Mrs. D. J. Vance of Des Moines went to Eagleville last Friday, and another brother, J. F. Vance, living south of Kellogg, started for that place Tuesday evening, but arrived too late to see his brother alive.

The funeral will be held at Kellogg this (Friday) afternoon.
