Aged Citizen Dies

Christopher Olday was born in Mecklenburg, Germany in 1830 and died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. William Gilreath, in Kellogg, Iowa, Monday, March 4, 1912, aged 81 years, 3 months and 16 Days.

He immigrated to the United States fifty years ago and has lived in or near Kellogg all these years.

His wife died ten years ago. Four daughters were the fruit of their union. They are Mrs. J. W. Jones and Mrs. A. DeBie of Oskaloosa and Mrs. William Gilreath of Kellogg, one having died.

Mr. Olday was a staunch and reliable member of the Lutheran church and a man who tried to live up to his faith. He suffered from asthma for years and was compelled to remain indoors much of the time the past few years. His last illness was of but a few days duration.

He was buried from the Lutheran church Wednesday morning at 10 o’clock, Rev. George E Schroeder, pastor, officiating, and the remains laid to rest by the side of his wife in the German cemetery.

Note: Born in Mecklenburg, Vorpommern, Prussia. His first name sometimes spelled Christian and the German spelling of Olday is Oltag. Daughter who preceded him in death was Louisa Olday Koppin. Wife was Hellena Baker Olday.
