A funeral service for Paul C. TerLouw of Pella will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Third Reformed Church in Pella. Visitation will take place Tuesday from noon to 3:30 p.m. at the Garden Chapel Funeral Home. Family will greet relatives and friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Third Reformed Church in the Old Testament Room.
Paul’s desire was to honor and bring glory to Jesus Christ in life and in death. That last desire was met when he went to be with his Lord on April 9, 2011, at the age of 88. Paul was born Dec. 15, 1922, on a farm in the Sandridge area.
Paul was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church in Pella where he served in leadership roles, including Deacon and Sunday School Teacher. Paul’s love of scripture, both memorizing and sharing, prompted him to join the Gideons where he served for many years. During the past few months Paul attended Third Reformed Church to worship with his family.
Even through the hardships of life, Paul’s hope remained anchored in the promise God spoke to him during the floods of 1947; “I will never leave you nor forsake you.” Paul was known by many to be an unshakable optimist who exuded joy. Seldom did conversations with Paul fail to draw upon scripture and his faith.
Those left to celebrate his life are his children and their spouses, (the late James TerLouw) Helen TerLouw Neer and Greg Neer of Pella, Connie and Carl Duinink of Knoxville, Mary and Barry Sparks of Newton, Steve and Kathy TerLouw of Pella, Larry and Karen Grootveld of Ottumwa, Cindy and Byron Loomans of Milwaukee and Mark and Patricia Grootveld of Ames; grandchildren; great grandchildren; and many friends.
(Interment at Oakwood Cemetery in Pella.)
