John Carl Daehler, 75, of Newton died Wednesday, March 2, 2011, at the Veteran’s Medical Center in Des Moines.
A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 16, at Pence-Reese Funeral Home in Newton, which has been entrusted with the arrangements. A time for conversation, remembering and celebration of John’s life will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.pencefh.com.

John, the son of Ferdinand and Effie (Maytag) Daehler, was born November 14, 1935, in Boone, Iowa. He was a graduate of the Boone Senior High, Class of 1954, received his BA degree from Grinnell College in 1958 and a Master of Arts degree from the University of Denver in 1962. John served his country with the US Army, 1960-1966, during the beginning of the Vietnam War.
John dedicated his life to his friends, and enjoyed genealogy. He was an active member of the Jasper County Genealogical Society and Jasper County Historical Society. John was employed as an interior designer and decorator, for several years.
Those left to honor John's memory include his nephew David (Lori) Daehler of Newton; a niece Diane Vermillion; several great-nieces and nephews; and his many extended family and friends. Interment: Newton Union Cemetery, Newton, IA
