Miss Gussie Pound died at the home of Joseph Brown in this city, at 5:35 o’clock, Wednesday morning, May 27th, aged 23 years. Miss Pound was a sister of Jas. T. Pound, of the Continental Clothing House. She left her home in Boston, about a year ago for Colorado, for the benefit of her health. Her hopes of improvement were not realized, and her health continued to fail, she came to Newton four months ago, where at first she seemed to grow better, but only for a short time. The tender, loving care of her devoted brother, as well as of a score of young friends, who gave her their constant attention, could only make pleasant her last days on earth, but failed to prolong the life which had become so dear to them.

She was a lovely Christian girl, a member of the Episcopal Church in Boston. The funeral service was held in the Episcopal Church yesterday at 4 o’clock, conducted by Rev. J. E. Ryan. ~ The Newton (IA) Record, Friday, May 29, 1896, Page 1, Column 4
