TO HOLD HOTCHKISS SERVICES SATURDAY
Rites to Be Held at Morgan Funeral Home at 2:30 and Burial in Newton.
Mrs. Mary Hotchkiss, for many years a resident of Newton, died suddenly at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Lee Darr, in Marshalltown, with whom she had been making her home for the last year. Mrs. Hotchkiss had been in ill health for the last two years and had been seriously ill for two weeks. Death was caused by heart failure and she died at the age of 73 years.
Prayer services will be held at the home of Mrs. Darr at 310 West State street in Marshalltown, tomorrow morning at 10 o'clock and Rev. W. R. Yard will have charge. The body will be brought to Newton and funeral rites will be held here at the Morgan Funeral home Saturday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock and burial will be in the Newton Union cemetery. The funeral address will be delivered by Dr. G. C. Williams, pastor of the Congregational church of this city.
Obituary
Mary Harrington was born in Gaiten, Mich., April 13, 1853, and lived there until she was 22 years old. She was united in marriage to George Hotchkiss at Gaiten and they resided there a year following their marriage and then moved to LaPorte, Ind. Nine children were born, four of whom survive. Mr. and Mrs. Hotchkiss lived in LaPorte for eight years and then moved to Newton, which had been her home until a year ago, when she went to Marshalltown to live with her daughter, Mrs. Darr. She was a member of the Baptist church in Newton.
Survivors
Mrs. Hotchkiss is survived by two sons and daughters, C. E. Hotchkiss of Newton and Fred E. Hotchkiss of Hollywood, Calif., and Mrs. Sam Snook of Oskaloosa and Mrs. Lee Darr of Marshalltown. A sister, Mrs. Charles Simpson and a brother, Charles Harrington, both of Buchanan, Mich., also survive. ~ Newton Daily News, January 20, 1928, page 1.
