Miss Jesse Moore died at the home of her mother, Mrs. Mary Moore, Monday, just before midnight. Jesse had been ill since last September, at which time she contracted a violent cold that finally culminated in consumption. She was patient throughout and bore her suffering without a murmur.

She was a young lady of more than average intelligence and was highly esteemed by all who knew her. She was graduated from the Newton High School with the class of 1891. She had been a member of the M. E. Church from her childhood and her daily walk was a constant index to the Christianity, which she professed.

The funeral services were held at the residence, at three o’clock, Wednesday afternoon. Rev. Searcy, pastor of the A. M. E. Church, officiating, assisted by Revs. Thos. Watson and E. J. Rice. A large number of friends were present. ~ The Newton (IA) Record, Friday, March 6, 1896, Page 4, Column 2
