Rachel Mae Daugherty, 91, of Prairie City died Saturday, March 12, 2011, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.
A funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 16, at Vandalia Church of Christ with burial following at Vandalia Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today, March 15, at Coburn Funeral Home of Prairie City from with family present to greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m.

The daughter of Harley and Ethel (Martin) Johnson, Rachel May was born on October 27, 1919 in rural Montezuma, Iowa. She worked as a telegrapher for CB&Q Railroad prior to marriage. On October 27, 1962 Rachel was united in marriage with Walter Daugherty at the Vandalia Church of Christ. Rachel became a dedicated homemaker and lived for cooking. She was an excellent cook and her homemade pies would bring in hundreds of dollars at auctions for the Vandalia Cemetery Association. Rachel also enjoyed garage sales. She was a member of the Vandalia Church of Christ.
Those left to honor her memory are her husband Walter Daugherty of Prairie City; two sisters, Pauline Ell of Montezuma and Marilyn Hardeman of Fayetteville, AK and many nieces and nephews. Rachel was preceded in death by her parents and one sister Dorothy Williams.
