Almost a Centenarian
George W. Close, one of the oldest men in Jasper County, and one among its earliest settlers, died at the home of his granddaughter, Mrs. Richard Strovers, near Kellogg, last Friday, January 17, 1896, Father Close was born in Albany, New York, December 9, 1804, and was over ninety-one years of age when his life’s work ended. He had been a member of the Church of Christ for more than forty years, and was one of the charter members of the church in Kellogg. He was a perfect type of Christian manhood, his life being devoted to the service of the Master. The good deeds of his ninety-one years will go on and continue to live through all time. The funeral services were held at the residence, three miles south of Kellogg, on Sunday afternoon, January 19th, conducted by his pastor, Rev. J. R.
