David Paul Elrod, 56, of Prairie City died from complications of pneumonia on Thursday, Feb. 24, 2011, at Iowa Lutheran Hospital in Des Moines.
A funeral service was this morning, Feb. 28, at Coburn Funeral Home in Prairie City with burial following at Silent City Cemetery in Monroe. Visitation was on Sunday afternoon at the funeral home.

The son of David M. and Marilyn Ruth (Telfer) Elrod, D. Paul was born on January 22, 1955, in Des Moines, Iowa. He graduated from Prairie City High School in 1973 and attended Kirkwood Community College. A lifelong resident of the area, D. Paul was raised in the Methodist Church. He worked for many years at Vermeer in Pella. D. Paul loved spending time and helping out with his many nieces and nephews. He also enjoyed attending flea markets.
Those left to honor his memory include his siblings, Patricia Brannen of Ankeny, Michael (Chris) Elrod on Monroe, Mitzi Thornton of Des Moines, and Teresa Chirch (D.W. "Chops" Alderman) also of Des Moines. Also surviving are several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death were his parents.
