Robert R. Snyder, 78, of Goodland, Kan., died Tuesday, Feb. 22, 2011, at the Goodland Regional Medical Center in Goodland, Kan.
Robert was born June 13, 1932, in Powell, Wyo., to Fred and Alice (Kreps) Snyder. He was one of eight children born to this union. He attended and graduated from Powell High School in 1950.
On Aug. 28, 1954, Robert and Edith Neva Phillips were united in marriage at the Lake Harriet Baptist Church in Minneapolis, Minn. He received his bachelor of arts degree in Bible from Northwestern Bible College in 1958. He then studied for two years at The Denver Conservative Baptist Seminary. In 1996, he received his masters in theology and in 1997 his doctorate in theology studies from Andersonville Baptist Seminary, also in Denver. He obtained a 4.0 GPA and was named to the dean’s list of scholars.
Robert would go on to serve several missionary churches but would spend most of his career in the Colfax, Iowa area. Robert and Edith have been residents of Goodland the past 10 years. Robert served as pastor for the Grace Fellowship Church in Goodland for four years before retiring. He was actively involved in the Goodland Ministerial Alliance and enjoyed both nursing home and prison ministry. He was a former Lions Club and Kiwanis Club member.
Those preceding him in death were his parents; two brothers, Ralph Snyder and Alfred Snyder; and two sisters, Margaret Moe and Betty Lou Andrews. Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Edith of their home in Goodland, Kan.; daughters Cheryl Palmer (Richard) of Newton, Iowa, and Tracy Snyder of Perkins, Okla. Also surviving are three sisters, Ruth Gray of Union City, Tenn., Helen Patton of Casper, Wyo., and Emily Hill of Washington state. Robert also is survived by six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren as well as many nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 26, 2011, at the First Baptist Church in Colfax with Pastor Phil Butler officiating. A service also will take place at the Goodland Bible Church in Goodland, Kan., on Saturday with Pastor Chad DeJong officiating.
Memorials may be made in Robert’s name to The Missionary Aviation Fellowship, the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association, or to Titus International. These may be left at or sent to Koons Funeral Home, 211 N. Main, Goodland, KS 67735.
