Conduct Rites for Mrs. Gant

Funeral rites for Mrs. W.E. Gant, 73, of Des Moines, former Newton resident who died Saturday in Des Moines, were conducted this morning at 10:30 o’clock from the Murdoch Funeral home in Newton by Dr. L.B. Logan, pastor of the local First Methodist Episcopal Church.

Mrs. Logan and Mrs. Fred Reeve furnished the music for the services, singing two selections, “Jesus Lover of My Soul”, and “Abide with Me.” Interment was in the Newton Union cemetery, with the following local men serving as pallbearers; Clarence Snow, A.T. Carey, Carl Carey, F. Virgil Welsh, David Conn and Robert Conn.

Mrs. Gant had been suffering from hardening of the arteries for some time and her death came Saturday evening as the result of an attack, brought on by the disease.

She is survived by her husband, W.E. Gant of Des Moines; her daughter, Mrs. C.E. Godfrey of Albia; three sisters, Mrs. Elizabeth Gant of Indianapolis, Ind., and Mrs. H.J. Agnew and Mrs. Rose Welsh, both of Newton; two brothers, Rex Welch of Newton and Jean Welch of Oskaloosa, and three grandchildren, Mrs. Dan O. Humeston of Centerville and Kathryn and Betty Lou Godfrey, both of Albia.
