--Ryan Morgan, who died in Montezuma on Saturday, May 2, as a result of a stroke of paralysis, was a brother of Milo Morgan of this city. Mr. Morgan, who is 84 years old, was unable to attend the funeral.

SUCCUMBS TO PARALYSIS
Saturday, May 2, Ryan Morgan, one of the old citizens of the community died from the effects of a stroke of paralysis after a week's illness. The deceased came to Iowa in an early day, was a gallant soldier in the Civil War, serving in an Iowa Regiment and during his long residence here made many friends.
Those from a distance who were present at the funeral services were
his three daughters, Mrs. Jno. Davis, Mrs. Walter Simpson and husband, of Newton, Mrs. O.E. Quaintance, of near this city, his sons, Gilbert, of Crocker, Ia., John, of Austin, Minn., brother-in-law, Horace Robertson of West Branch, sisters, Mrs. R.B. Cranston, of Deep River, Mrs. J.H. Atherton, of Guernsey, Mrs. J. L. Fahrney, of Lyons, Kansas, niece, Mrs. George Champlin and husband of Newton. His brother, Milo Morgan, of Grinnell, who is 84 years of age, was unable to be present. Following the funeral services here Sunday afternoon the remains were taken to Kellogg, accompanied by the bereaved wife and members of the family, including A.O. Morgan, nephew, where they were laid to rest amid the scenes of his earlier life. The death of Ryan Morgan removes another of our pioneer citizens.
Ryan Morgan was born in Lee county, Illinois, May 24th, 1836 and died at his home in Montezuma, Ia., May 2nd, 1914 aged 77 years, 11 months and 8 days. He came with his parents to Iowa and located with them on a farm two miles east of Deep River. On January 26th,1860, he was united in marriage with Amanda Robertson. To this union were born ten children, three sons and seven daughters. Eight of the children are still living. His wife died October 19, 1891. He moved to Jasper county in 1868 and continued to reside there on his farm until the spring of 1901. He then moved to Forest City. Here he met and married Mrs. Alzada N. Peacock, on April 15, 1902. She, with the surviving children, mourn his decease. He moved to Montezuma about four years ago and made his home here until his death.
His last illness was brief, being stricken with apoplexy on Saturday, April 25th. He continued to live about one week but did not regain consciousness. He was a member of the Baptist church. In 1864 he joined Co. F., 15th Iowa Infantry, and served until the close of the war. One brother and three sisters survive him. Milo Morgan, of Grinnell, Mrs. R.B. Cranston of Deep river, Mrs. J.H. Atherton of Guernsey and Mrs. J.L. Fahrney of Lyons, Kansas. The funeral services were held at the late home on Sunday afternoon in charge of Rev. George Blagg.
