William C. Richards Sr., 83, of Newton died on Sunday, Feb. 6, 2011, at Taylor House Hospice in Des Moines.
A funeral service will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 12, at the First Christian Church, 314 E. Second St. N. in Newton.
The family will greet friends from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 11, at the Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton.
Memorials to the American Cancer Society may be left at the church on the afternoon of the service or at the funeral home.
Survivors include his wife, Regenia of Newton; daughter, Lucretia (Gary) Beals of Colfax; son, Bill (Patty) Richards of Newton; his three grandchildren, Heather (Duane) Loshaw of Newton, Candace Richards of Minneapolis, Minn., and Stephanie Richards of Des Moines; three great-grandchildren, Kyra, Eli and Calli Loshaw; and his sister, Betty (Dale) Herman of Johnston.
He was preceded in death by his parents; grandson, Gary Beals in 2010; five brothers; and two sisters.

William C. Richards, Sr. was born March 28, 1927. William served his country in the U. S. Navy during WW II.
William was a production worker for the Maytag Company for many years retiring in 1985.
William was a member of the First Christian Church, and VFW Post 1655. He enjoyed gardening, growing flowers, hunting and fishing.
Interment: Immediately following the funeral service on Saturday, February 12, 2011 at the Newton Memorial Park Cemetery in Newton.
