Arline M. (Kono) Foster, 85, of Newton died Friday, Feb. 4, 2011, at her home.
A funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 8, at the First United Methodist Church in Newton with the Rev. Gary Marzolf officiating. The family will greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m Monday, Feb. 7, at the Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton. Burial will be at Newton Union Cemetery in Newton.
Memorials to First United Methodist Church or Hospice of Jasper County may be left at the funeral home.
The daughter of Harry and Anna (Nielsen) Kono, Arline was born May 14, 1925, in Newton, Iowa. She graduated from Colfax High School in 1943 and grew up in Colfax. In 1956, she was united in marriage to Richard E. Foster and moved to Newton.
Arline worked as a secretary for Newton Manufacturing for 17 years before retiring in 1981. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, the Central Iowa BBQ Club, the Newton Blue Jays CB Club and attended many functions at the Jasper County Senior Citizens’ Center
Arline was a devoted mother and wife and loved her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed camping, playing bingo, traveling, going to Burger King, shopping and attending potlucks at the Union Hall and the Senior Citizens’ Center.
Arline is survived by a son, Rich (Judy) Foster of Little Egg Harbor, N.J.; six grandchildren, Travis (Erin) Foster, Tanner Foster (Angie Dennis), Jeff (Buffi) Lint, Jessica Cannon (Jack Frogge), Kimberly (Harry) Nogowski and Michelle Pinkerton; three geat-grandchildren, Abigail Cannon, Alyssa Polsgrove and Haylee Nogowski; her brothers and sisters, Alma Green, Lee Tharp, Kay (Bruce) Lewis and Ila Brandt; a brother-in-law, Charlie Foster (Margaret Repp); and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Richard, in 1992; daughter, Linda K. Foster Morton in 2006; sister, Lois Gean Hills; and brothers, Leland Kono and Lowell Kono.
