PRAIRIE CITY — Louise Steenhoek, 81, of Prairie City, Iowa, passed away Sunday, Jan. 16, 2011, at Iowa Lutheran Hospital in Des Moines, with her daughters by her side.
A funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 20, at the Prairie City Christian Reformed Church with Pastor Matt McClure officiating. Burial will be in Waveland Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 to 7 p.m. with the family present from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 19, at Coburn Funeral Home in Prairie City.
Mabel Louise Roberts was born on Oct. 28, 1929, in Prairie City, the daughter of Ralph H. and Mabel B. Riley Roberts. She was educated and graduated from high school in Prairie City. On Feb. 16, 1949, she married Darrell Albert Steenhoek at the Prairie City United Methodist Church. He preceded her in death on July 12, 2000.
Survivors include five daughters, Nancy Herselius, Marcia DeVries, Diana Seibert, Karen Steenhoek and Roberta Wademan. Also surviving are 12 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, one sister, one sister-in-law and one brother-in-law. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two brothers, two brothers-in-law, two sisters-in-law and one great-grandson.
Louise was a devoted farm wife and mother. She had been employed for many years at Roberts Bros True Value Hardware in Prairie City and Skiff Medical Center in Newton. She enjoyed bowling, quilting, counted cross stitching, knitting, baking, cooking and visiting. She especially loved visiting with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and she will be greatly missed.
A memorial fund is being established for either the Prairie City Christian Reformed Church or Courtyard Estates in Bondurant.

Also surviving are twelve grandchildren, Kerry Fall and husband Jon, Amy Galeazzi and husband Scott, Scott DeVries, Jason DeVries and wife Karen, David DeVries and wife Lori, Joe Masterson, Doug Masterson and wife Ana, Christy Gladden, Tessa Seibert, Chad Sturtz, Michelle Rhodes and husband Coldy, and Andrew Wademan and wife Shannon; great-grandchildren, Jess Fall, Haley Fall, Lauren Galeazzi, Brandon Galeazzi, Megan Galeazzi, Kaitlyn Galeazzi, Jarred DeVries, Darrell DeVries, Kaleb DeVries, Kate Masterson, Cara Masterson, Tyler Gladden, Allison Gladden, Ava Sturtz, Koltan Wademan, Coldy Rhodes Jr, and Kyreece Rhodes; one sister, Gladys Burn of Prairie City; one sister-in-law Mary Lou Roberts of Pleasant Hill; and one brother-in-law John Plate of Prairie City.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two brothers Raymond Roberts and Harold Roberts, two brothers-in-law Bert Taylor and Hubert Burns, two sisters-in-law Jeanetta Plate and Betty Roberts, and one great-grandson Prince Daniel DeVries.
