Lisk, Mildred – 1920–2011

Mildred was born on December 10, 1920, near Lynnville, Iowa to Lemart and Della Renaud Brush. She was raised in the Lynnville area and graduated from Lynnville High School and a business college in Oskaloosa. Following her education she worked for the Iowa Power and Light Company and the Oskaloosa Chamber of Commerce. On March 21, 1943, she was married to Clyde Lisk in Lynnville. Her husband served in World War II and she lived in Los Angeles, California and Des Moines and worked for the Social Security Administration. After the war the couple lived in Lynnville and she served as the Postmaster for the United States Postal Service in Lynnville. She retired in August of 1984.
She was a member of the Sully Community Church and had also taught 2nd grade Sunday school at the Lynnville Friends Church. Her interests included traveling throughout the United States and reading. Her Christian faith was a very important part of her daily life.
Survivors include her son, Alan “Clyde” (Stacey) Lisk of Des Moines; her daughter, Jill (Dan) Vander Linden of Sioux City; three grandsons, B.J. and Tyler Vander Linden and Carson Lisk; six granddaughters, Mackenzie (Cory) Rekers, Desiree, Edan, Kiley and Karley Lisk; and two sisters, Bernice Smith of Lynnville and Lois Vander Schel of Pella.
She is preceded in death by her husband; her parents; one brother, Rex Brush; and two sisters, Deloris Boggs and Harriet DeBoef.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Sully Community Church Building Fund.
Date of death: January 13, 2011.
Visitation: The family will be present at the church beginning 12 noon on Tuesday.
Funeral Service: 1:30 p.m., Tuesday January 18, 1911 at Sully Community Church in Sully, Iowa
Interment: Following the funeral service , at Friends Cemetery near Lynnville, Iowa
