James Laverne Myrick, 62, of Newton passed away Wednesday morning, Jan. 12, 2011, at the Iowa Veteran’s Home in Marshalltown.
There are no memorial services planed at this time for Jim. The Pence-Reese Funeral Home in Newton has been entrusted with the arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Jim’s name are being designated.
Jim was born Aug. 25, 1948, in Newton, the son of Charles L. and Mildred I. (Hobbs) Myrick. He graduated from Newton Senior High School and attended college at U.N.I. and Iowa State. He served his country with the U.S. Air Force during Vietnam era. A longtime resident of Newton, he also had lived in Las Vegas and then Marshalltown.
Jim was employed as a kitchen storekeeper at the Nevada Test Site, north of Las Vegas. He enjoyed his family and friends, his photography and was a longtime member of AA.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, John E. Myrick.
Those left to honor Jim’s memory include his brother, Charles LeRoy Myrick of Newton; two nephews and a niece; and many friends.
