Clarence Irvin Burton, 90, of Newton passed away Saturday evening, Jan. 8, 2011, in the Monarch Wing of Skiff Medical Center in Newton.
Private family services for Irvin will be on Wednesday, Jan. 12, held by the Pence-Reese Funeral Home in Newton. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Irvin’s name are being designated to the Hospice of Jasper County Monarch Wing.
C. Irvin Burton, the son of Albert Lee and Dora Pearl (Turner) Burton, was born May 29, 1920, in Jasper County, Iowa. A lifelong resident of the Newton area, he had attended Newton schools. He later served his country with the U.S. Army during World War II. Irvin was employed by the Maytag Company in Newton.
In 1943, Irvin was united in marriage with Norma Jean Bowen in Missouri. To this union three children were born, Connie, Denny and Terri. Norma Jean preceded him in death on June 30, 1990. In 1993, Irvin was united in marriage with Hazel L. Steward Burg in Newton. He devoted his life to his wife and family and was a member of the Newton American Legion Post #111, Newton V.F.W. Post #1655 and the Newton Moose Lodge.
Irvin was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Norma Jean; a sister, Edith Findley; and his beloved pet, Mindy.
Those left to honor Irvin’s memory include his wife, Hazel; his daughters and a son, daughter Connie (Mike) Trueman of Lake of the Woods, Minn., son Denny Burton of Newton and daughter Terri (Mike) Burton-Wire of Urbandale, Iowa; his two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; several step-children, step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren; his sisters, Velma Spence of Traer, Iowa, and Mabel Kader of Arizona; and his many friends.
