Vivian Lucille Heck, 78, of Newton passed away on Friday evening, Jan. 7, 2011, at the Newton Health Care Center.
A funeral service for Vivian will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 13, 2011, at the Pence-Reese Funeral Home in Newton with Pastor Dottie Black officiating. Visitation with the family will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be at the Newton Union Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Vivian’s name are being designated.
Vivian, the daughter of Joseph Ralph and Alise Alberta (Walker) Townsend, was born Aug. 25, 1932, in Newton. A lifelong resident of the Newton area, she attended Newton schools. Vivian was employed by the Vernon Company in Newton as a supervisor, retiring in 1994.
On Jan. 25, 1948, Vivian was united in marriage with Lyle E. Heck in Newton. She devoted her life to her husband and family and was a past member of the Newton V.F.W. Auxiliary, the Ladies of the Moose, UAW Local #997 Retirees and attended the Foursquare Church in Newton.
Vivian was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Lyle, on March 6, 1996; her daughter-in-law, Karen, on Nov. 2, 2010; a great-granddaughter, Jessica Lindley; and her brother, Darrell Maxwell.
Those left to honor Vivian’s memory include her daughters, Mary Ann (Rick) Brown of Kellogg, Iowa, and Rhonda Rae (Tim) Saunders of Newton; her sons: Nick Joseph (Joyce) Heck of Newton, John William Heck of Newton and Edward Lee (Cindi) Heck of Grinnell, Iowa; her 11 grandchildren, Tracy Lindley, Troy Heck, Shelly Fitzgerald, Todd Heck, JoAnn Tratchel, Jason Heck, Kristin Titus, Kelli Brown, Kayla Brown, Joshua Saunders and Jennifer Saunders; 25 great-grandchildren; and her many friends.
