Rites Tues. for Mary Barbour
Mrs. Alex (Mary) Barbour, 77, a resident of Nelson Manor in Newton since 1973 and long time resident of Colfax, died Saturday morning, April 4 at the Manor. Funeral services were held at 2 pm Tuesday at the Walters-Coburn Funeral Home in Colfax. The Rev. John McKinstry, pastor of the Christian church of Colfax, conducted the services. Burial was in the Colfax Cemetery. Mrs. Frank B. Evans was the organist and the soloist was Mrs. Mary Hunter. Casket bearers were Howard Williams, Jr., Norman Hanna, George Hanna and Charlie Sage. Survivors are three nephews, George Grundy of Colfax, Nochols Rinker of Des Moines and James Rinker of Maderira, FL., and two nieces, Helen Johnson and Virginia Coleman, both of Pensacola, FL. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, three brothers and a sister. Mrs. Barbour, a member of the Colfax Christian Church, had taught rural school and been a partner with her husband in a business in Minnesota. The daughter of George and Mary Nichols Rinker, she was born June 20, 1902 in Colfax. ~ Jasper County Tribune, April 10, 1980
