Espe, Joan Fern – 1942–2010

Joan Fern (Child) Espe of Laurel passed away on November 8, 2010, while seeking medical help in Mississippi, with her daughter, husband and family friend by her side.
Memorial services will be held on Friday 1:30 p.m. on January 7, 2011, at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown. There will be no visitation. Memorials may be directed to the family. For condolences please visit www.mitchellfh.com or call (641) 844-1234.
Joan was born in Marshalltown on November 3, 1942. She spent her childhood in Toledo and graduated from Toledo High School in 1961.She was a member of the Methodist Church in Laurel, and was united in marriage to Ron Espe on December 19, 1976. They made their home in Laurel.Joan retired from Maytag in Newton after about 30 years and had been working at Raymon-Donco Manufacturing in Albion for about 5 years, until she became sick.
Joan was also a member of Eastern Star for 43 years. She was initiated at the Central Chapter of Marshalltown in February of 1967. She demitted to Onix Chapter at Gilman in 1993, and then the Gilman Chapter closed its doors in 2006. She then became a member of the Central Chapter of Marshalltown.
Left to cherish her memory are her husband Ron Espe of Laurel, her daughter Marsha (Tom) Pawlak of Newburg, her brother Joseph (Barbara) Child of Laurel, her six stepchildren Rick Espe, LaDonna Ward, Joe Espe, Terry Espe, Tom Espe and Suzie Gannon, all of Kansas.
Joan was preceded in death by her mother Fern Blazek, father Joe Child and stepfather Frank Blazek.
