Golik, Brett William – 1970–2010

Brett William Golik, 40, passed away in the Hospice of Jasper County Monarch Wing on Friday, Dec. 24, 2010, following a courageous 30-month battle with brain cancer.
A memorial service for Brett will be at 6:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 7, 2011, at the First Christian Church in Newton. A celebration of life will follow the service.
Brett was born in Newton, Iowa, on Nov. 19, 1970, to James Golik and Sherry (Albee) Golik. He attended school in Newton, graduating in 1989. He then worked on the line at Maytag for 10 years. After the factory closed, Brett earned certificates in machinist technology and welding from DMACC. On Aug. 16, 2004, Brett was united in marriage to Jennifer Ratcliff in Las Vegas, Nev.
One of Brett’s biggest interests as a teenager was sprint car racing. Through hard work and perseverance, Brett accomplished his dream of owning and racing his own sprint car. He was a regular in the 360 class at Knoxville for over 18 years. Brett’s other interests included buying and selling sprint car parts and spending time with friends and family. He was known for being a wonderful friend, always willing to give advice and lend a helping hand. He was a member of First Christian Church in Newton.
Brett was preceded in death by his mother, grandparents, three uncles and his father-in-law.
Those left to honor Brett’s memory include his wife, Jennifer of Newton; his father, Jim (Vicki) Golik of Newton; step-grandmother, Donna Albee of Newton; his aunt and friend, Linda Breckenridge of Newton; and his uncles, aunts, cousins, in-laws and one niece.
Memorial contributions to The Jimmy Fund at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute or to Hospice of Jasper County may be left at the church on the evening of the memorial service or at the Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton.
