Myron L. Coffin, 73, of Newton died on Monday, Dec. 20, 2010, at Hospice of Jasper County Monarch Wing in Newton.

As per Myron’s wishes, he has been cremated, and a private family graveside service will be held. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to Hospice of Jasper County, the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society or to the First United Methodist Church. Memorials may be left at the Wallace Family Funeral Home & Crematory.
Myron was the son of Lloyd and Virginia I. (Surber) Coffin, born April 1, 1937, in Decatur City, Iowa. He was a graduate of Garden Grove High School in Garden Grove, Iowa. Myron moved to Newton in 1955.

On Aug. 23, 1959, Myron was united in marriage with Janet Ann Gidley in Newton. He worked in the skilled trades department as a machine repairman at the Maytag Company for 44½ years, retiring in 1999. Myron was a member of the Emerson Hough Chapter of the Izaak Walton League, National Rifle Association, Archaeological Society of Iowa, Maytag Collectors Club, First United Methodist Church and UAW Local #997. He was an avid outdoorsman and hunter; he also had a love for morel mushrooms.

Myron is survived by his wife, Janet of Newton; daughter, Kris A. Coffin McQuinn of Missoula, Mont.; two sons, Kirk L. (Monica) Coffin of Sikeston, Mo., and Kent Coffin of Newton; his six granddaughters and two great-grandchildren; and his brother, John (Kate) Coffin of Kelley, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Gale Coffin.

Among his survivors are his six granddaughters, Afton Coffin, Ashley McQuin, Cherisa Coffin, Amanda McQuin, Demi Coffin-Osborn and Dakotah Coffin-Osborn; two great-grandchildren, Merrick Guillion and Kaytlynn Gannaway.
