Richard B. Bishop, 92, of Newton died Monday, Dec. 6, 2010, at Hospice of Jasper County Monarch Wing in Newton.
A funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 11, at the Community Heights Alliance Church, 2500 S. 13th Ave. E. in Newton, with Pastor Cory Stout, senior pastor, officiating. The family will greet friends from 10 a.m., until the time of service on Saturday at the church. Burial will be at Mt. Zion Cemetery in rural Newton.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to Hospice of Jasper County, memorials may be left at the Wallace Family Funeral Home & Crematory in Newton or at the church on the morning of the service.
The son of Fred P. and Ada Bertha (Kling) Bishop, Richard was born Nov. 14, 1918, in Newton, Iowa. He graduated from Newton Senior High School in 1936, and he attended the Iowa State University. He helped to start the FFA Chapter in the Newton high school.
Richard served his country in the U. S. Army Air Corps. from 1944-1946 during World War II. He was united in marriage to Evamae Jordan on March 26, 1939, in Killduff, Iowa.
Richard farmed for 23 years and was a carpenter for 25 years. He lived on the family farm in the Mt. Zion area of Jasper County for 77 years, prior to moving into Newton in 1995.
Richard was a member of the Community Heights Alliance Church for 38 years, where he had served as an elder and deacon for many years. He was also a member of the Jasper County Farm Bureau.
Richard is survived by his son, Jerry (Nancy) Bishop of White Bear Lake, Minn.; his daughter, Judy (David) Kemmann of Lombard, Ill.; five grandchildren, Lisa (Mark) Vornwald of Eden Prairie, Minn., Eric (Susie) Bishop of Hugo, Minn., Aimee (Ryan) Johnson of Bloomington, Minn., Debbie Fuller of Aurora, Ill., and Greg (Kathryn) Kemmann of Lake in the Hills, Ill.; 14 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Glenn (Doris) Bishop of Waterloo.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Evamae, in 2009.
