Patrick Callahan died at the home of his son John in this place (Colfax) at 10 a.m. last Saturday. He was born in County Letrim, Ireland, something like 90 years ago and came to America when a mere lad. He came to Colfax as an employe of the C.R.I. & P. Railway Company in 1868, and served that corporation for more than 20 years--for many years as section boss.

He was married to Leora S. Phillips July 4th, 1868, and was the father of ten children, six of whom survive him.

Funeral services were from the Catholic church in this place at 11 a.m., last Monday, and the interment was at Oak Hill (Colfax) by the side of his wife and children.

Deceased had been a constant care to his son John and wife for the past three years, and for the past five years has attempted no kind of labor. He has been cared for like a child almost all the time. His passing relieves those who have had to minister to him, of tremendous responsibility and constant anxiety and it will be a long time before the home in which he has lived so long can adjust itself to his absence. In this connection his children desire to express their heartfelt thanks to the neighbors and friends who have so kindly come to their aid in their hour of need and to assure them that their kind acts will never be forgotten. ~ The Colfax Clipper, Colfax, Iowa, Thursday, July 21, 1910, page 1.

Miss Georgia Callahan, of Clear Lake, was here in attendance upon her father's funeral Monday. She is soon to be married to a Mr. Tony Wadena. Her sister, Mrs. Kate Park, of Minneapolis, could not be reached in time to come to the funeral. Another sister, Mrs. maggie Batty, of Salt Lake, found it impossible to come, while a brother Ed, could not be located to summon him.
