John Lund, One Time Grinnellian Dies in Newton

Funeral services were held at Murdoch Funeral Home in Newton Sunday afternoon for John Lund, 60, former local resident whose death occurred near Newton Friday afternoon. Born in Des Moines July 21, 1883, he came to Kellogg following the death of his father when he was a small boy. He was baptised and confirmed in the faith of the local Lutheran church and attended the local schools. He was united in marriage to Miss Olive Knapp of Colfax August 25, 1908 and they made their home near Gilman, in Laurel and in Grinnell, where he operated a shoe repair shop as long as his health would permit. Two children were born to this union, one of whom died in infancy. Mrs Lund also preceded him in death.

Surviving relatives include his son, Robert Lund, of Moline, Ill.; five half brothers, William and Hugo of Grinnell, Carl and Albert of Laurel and L. A. Hasselbrink of this place; three sisters, Mrs Mack Reed and Mrs. Gus Ebert of this place, and Mrs. Elmer Kooistra of Newton.
