Raymond McBride, 81, of Waterloo died Wednesday, July 14, 2010, of a heart attack.
Ray was born Nov. 8, 1928, in San Diego, Calif., son of Clarence and Leta Nilsson McBride. He married Mary Ellen Stephenson on June 3, 1950, in Newton. She died Oct. 11, 2008. He graduated from San Diego High School in 1946.
Ray delivered dairy products for Carnation Co. for 34 years, retiring in 1987. He served in the Marine Corps during World War II.
Following his retirement in 1987, he volunteered his time working with many students at various schools in Waterloo. He was the first recipient of the Golden Apple Award. He also enjoyed collecting train memorabilia.
He is survived by his son, Stephen (Judy) McBride of Colfax, and three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, Justin McBride and Joshua McBride, both of Newton, and Jessica (fiancé Bailey Dannels) McBride and her children, Cameron McBride and Destiny McBride-Dannels, all of Colfax.
Ray is preceded in death by an infant son.
A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 2, at Locke Funeral Home in Waterloo, where the family will greet friends for an hour before services. Friends who wish may direct memorials to First Congregational United Church of Christ. Condolences may be left at www.lockefuneralhome.com.
