Monte Lee Juett, 67, of Newton died Sunday, July 18, 2010, at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines.
A funeral mass will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 21, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Newton with Father William Reynolds and Deacon Dan Goetz officiating. The family will greet friends from 5:30 to 8 p.m. today, July 20, at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Newton. A vigil service will be at 8 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Sacred Heart Catholic may be left at the church during the visitation or the service. The Wallace Family Funeral Home & Crematory in Newton is handling arrangements.
The son of Victor and Shirley (Riepe) Juett, Monte was born June 27, 1943, in Creston, Iowa. He grew up in Newton and attended Newton school. He graduated from Monroe High School in 1961. On June 4, 1966, he was united in marriage to Mary McNeer in Newton, Iowa.
Monte served his country in the U.S. Marine Corp from 1961-1965. He was a security officer at the Maytag Company for over 39 years, retiring in 2008. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and UPGWA (United Plant Guard Workers of America). He enjoyed researching his Cherokee Indian heritage, biking and traveling, and he was a huge history buff. He loved being with his family and conversing with people of all ages. He was a simple and humble man.
Monte is survived by his wife, Mary Juett of Newton; three children, Renee (Rodrigo) Lozano of Dagsboro, Del., Sean (Shelly) Juett of Bennington, Neb., and Stephanie (Mark) McFadden of Omaha, Neb.; six grandchildren, Sarah Cristina Lozano, Catalina Nicole Lozano, Ashley Renee Van Fleet, Caitlin Mary McFadden, Natalie Marie McFadden and Blake Patrick McFadden; a sister, Dorothy (James) Bennett of Last Chance, Okla.; and two step-brothers, Steve (Carolyn) States of Oxnard, Calif., and David Graham of Des Moines, Iowa.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two grandchildren.
