Roger Walter Gideon, 95, passed away on July 13, 2010, at Skiff Medical Center in Newton.
Roger was born October 24, 1914, in Moravia, Iowa, the only child of Walter and Effie Gideon. On May 22, 1937, Roger was united in marriage with Dorothy June Lockman in Coatsville, Mo. Last year they celebrated their 72nd Anniversary.
Roger farmed and did factory work but always had a passion for carpentry work and home construction. Roger always considered himself a rolling stone, living in places such as Minnesota and Michigan but always moved back to Iowa, settling in Newton in the early 1980s. He was a member of the Jehovah‘s Witnesses congregation.
He was preceded in death by his wife and parents. Those left to honor Roger’s memory include his four children, JoAnne Sanders of Gilman; Janice (Ray) Hartgrave of Belle Plaine; Jeraldine (Bill) Nace and Jody (Janet) Gideon of Newton; his 10 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
