J. H. Van Haalen Rites Held In Prairie City

PRAIRIE CITY - Funeral services for J. H. Van Haalen were held in the Methodist church here on Tuesday afternoon with the Rev. W. W. Marjahu in charge. Music was furnished by a quartet composed of Mrs. C. C. Neff, Mrs. Earl Williams, Mrs. Joe McKlveen and Miss Dorothy Moul who sang, "Faith of Our Fathers" and "The Old Rugged Cross," Mrs. S. P. McFadden was the accompanist.

Pall bearers were Rodger Boertje, Gerald Paardekooper, Martin Paardekooper, Don Ryerkerk, Ray Ryerkerk and Bert Van Haalen.

Mr. Van Haalen was born in Pella, Ia., Dec. 8, 1870 and died at his home here Sunday morning, Feb. 18, following a week's illness. In 1894 he was married to Dena Westerhof who preceded him in death. Three children were born to them of whom one son, Henry Van Haalen of Monroe, survives. In 1932, he married Minnie Ryerkerk who also survives. Burial was in Pella. ~ The Newton (IA) Daily News, Feb. 22, 1945
