Virginia Mae Madison, 89, of Richmond, Mo., died at 11:59 a.m. Wednesday, June 9, 2010, at the Shirkey Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Richmond.
Mrs. Madison was born May 1, 1921, in Springfield, Mass., to James and Ethel (Newberry) Harren. She married Lorance P. Madison of La Plata, Mo., on Feb. 14, 1946. He preceded her in death.
Survivors include one daughter, Daune Hart; a daughter/granddaughter, Tammie A. Smith, and her husband, Dr. David Smith, of Richmond; one sister and brother-in-law, Ella and Steve Turiel of Schenectady, NY, and their child, nephew, Tommy Turiel, and nieces, Cathy, Joann and Nancy; six grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren, including James and Jeffery Damron; and 10 great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by three sons, Larry Madison, Robert Madison and Kenny Hart; one daughter, Joyce Madison, who died in infancy; and one sister, Agnes.
Mrs. Madison was a columnist for the Newton Daily News in Newton, Iowa, for several years. She was a salesperson for Avon for more than 25 years. She had lived in Newton and Kingsland, Texas, before moving to Richmond, Mo., in 2008. She was a member of the VFW Auxiliary and was a volunteer for the Red Cross.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Ray County Home Health Hospice.
Memorial graveside services will be at Union Cemetery in Newton at a later date. Thurman Funeral Home in Richmond, Mo., is in charge of the arrangements.
