Darlene Joyce Beard, 77, of Monroe died Saturday, June 19, 2010, at Skiff Medical Center in Newton.
A funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 23, at the Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church south of Prairie City with burial following at Pleasant Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. today, June 22, at Coburn Funeral Home of Monroe with the family present to greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m.

The daughter of Ernest and Bernice (Hartley) Spegal, Joyce was born on February 23, 1933 in Fisher, Illinois. On September, 27, 1953 Joyce was united in marriage with Gordon H. Beard in Baxter. Joyce spent several years as a devoted homemaker for her family. She enjoyed camping, crafts and collecting dolls and angels. Joyce loved camping and taking trips to Alaska, but her greatest love was her family. Joyce was a member of the Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church.
Those left to honor her memory are her husband of 56 years, Gordon Beard of Monroe; three sons, Randy Beard of Monroe; Tim Beard and his wife Kim of Monroe; and Melvin Beard and his wife Norma of Newton; one granddaughter, Amanda Barger of Kentucky; one grandson, Jeremy Beard; two great-grandchildren, Chey and Sky Barger; one brother, Mike Spegal of Sigourney, one sister, Sandy Fredrickson of Des Moines and extended family of step-grandchildren: Tyler, Laura, Travis and Jamie. Joyce was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Paul Spegal Jr.
